• Ocean Wings

If you’ve ever dreamt of flying then your dreams may be closer than you think and you don’t have to be a fearless basejumper to experience the feeling. No because this version of flying is slightly wetter than base-jumping; because you do it under water!

French designer Guillaume Binard is the mastermind behind Aqualung’s new underwater flight suit called Ocean Wings which is one of the closest humans will get to experiencing the joy of flight. The suit, made of neoprene which is what normal wetsuits are made from, allows the wearer to navigate underwater like a fish without moving their arms or legs. Designed to look similarly to an average wetsuit the difference between that and the Ocean Wings is that they feature a fine web between the arms and legs which help the wearer to glide effortlessly under water using the resistance.

Binard describes Ocean Wings as being inspired by the suits worn by basejumpers and noted that ‘the wingsuit is one of the most popular icons of our society, realising the oldest human dream – flying’. He also went on to highlight that the project identifies similarities between air and water and the way in which we interact with them.
