Mary Katrantzou X Gianvito Rossi Footwear Collaboration

I’ve always been one to take a walk on the wild side, I’m not sure why I just guess as Lady Gaga like to put it in her song I was ‘Born this way’.  I’ve always had a passion for fashion as corny as it may sound, but there is no better feeling than dressing up, it’s almost like endorphin's are released when I try on any form of designer attire.

As a lover of fashion means also that the love of shoes comes hand in hand. Mary Katrantzou and Gianvito Rossi have joined forces to produce one of the most exciting electric shoe collections the fashion industry has seen to date.

Katrantzou is a talented young female designer that was born in Athens. Katrantzou made the big move to America where she started her studies doing a BA in Architecture and was later transferred to Central Saint Martins to complete her degree in textile design. Graduating in 2005 the aspiring designer went onto complete a Fashion MA which she got a distinction.

Katrantzou work is completely focused on womenswear, where her signature style seems to revolve around an illusion of some kind. Print is very much the discipline Katramtzou loves to work with print because it allows her to define her own visual language.  Pass themes for the designers work have seen the illusion of printed shapes and how they can change the shape of the female body. Mary Katrantzou graduate collection in 2008 also used the idealology of illusion which she featured large statement necklaces printed onto dresses.

Gaianvito Rossi on the other hand has been in the midst of the industry for a while now. He began is label back in 2006 and it was in 2007 we saw his first female footwear collection. This collaboration from the offset was going to be a match made in shoe heaven combing their impressive skills with their Italian Greek heritage.

Katrantzou and Rossi both from an early age got an appreciation for fine artisan. Katrantzou mother was a textile designer and her father worked in textile design. Rossi on the other hand worked alongside his father Sergio for over twenty years, his father started the business back in 1935 and Gianvito later inherited the shoemaker business along with the tools and great traditions.

This eclectic fashion duo was always going to have us waiting in anticipation where by both designers are renowned for intelligent design aesthetic and function. They both carry pride in their work which shows in the pieces that have the up most care and precision in craftsmanship. Investing in a pair of shoes from this collaboration will be that of everything luxe that Rossi quantifies as the pleasure in one gets from slipping on the shoe.

The collection packs quite a punch in an array of graphic digital print, in funky fresh styles perfect for the summer. The collection displays a perfect balance of both designers’ eccentric personalities, which results in a wearable art collection that I just had to ‘Roar’ about.  I can wait take a fierce fashion forward step in a pair of these dreamy treats this spring summer.
