• Tsumori Chisato

This week I have to bring your attention to my latest designer crush…Tsumori Chisato. I don’t often fall in love with designers it’s very seldom but I can't help but gush about the works of Chisato who is a wearable art designer that deserves your undivided attention.

I’ve always had bit of a thing for Asian fashion which is probably why I’m so drawn to the work of Chisato because she is  a Japanese fashion designer. The talented designer studied at the Bunka Fashion School in Tokyo.

In 1977 Chisato got some priceless hands on experience with Issey Miyake which is a well established high end fashion label. By 1990 Chisato went out as that little fish in the ocean and launched her own fashion line which she debut in Tokyo Fashion week the same year.

With the success of the label in Tokyo Chisato took her label to Paris in 2003 where she unveiled her collection at the pret a porter shows. At this time Chisato had also designed a menswear collection.

The Japanese designer aesthetics is focused on prints which sees influences of Manga meets bo-ho cuteness.  Chisato’s collection has been so successful it won the prestigious Minichi Newspaper Award.

This A/W 14 collection is by far my favorite collection to date. The collection saw the models go down the runway in garments that were strong in form and design with geometric shapes emphasized with primary and secondary colours.

This collection is particularly interesting because each piece carries depth in design where luxe innovative fabrics have been mixed juxtaposing feminine and masculine accents. All of the pieces are just incredible with intricate detailing of beadwork and print embellishment.

I love a wearable art designer and with the pieces in this collection it will make you feel as though you are truly wearing art with these kitsch style pieces.  Chisato is a designer that likes to take risks and somewhat reminds me of a dubbeed down Comme des Garcons, who both create the most directional and conceptualized fashion collections.

What do you think? Would you like to work Chisato into your wardrobe?
