Shoes are a vital necessity to any outfit they can either form the focal statement piece to an outfit or be worn to accessories and enhance other key garment pieces to fully encapsulate aesthetically pleasing look.



Today we see shoe designers embarking wearable art shoe designs more so than ever never ceasing in delivering us the most epic shoe designs that are truly awe inspiring wearable art.

A popular trend amongst wearable art shoe technology designers is light technology using LED lights within shoe design to create that never seen before shoe that looks as though they could be from out of this world. The notion of light as a form of inspiration in shoe design has been heavily used by emerging designers and commercial alike in which they have delivered us range of shoes that are breathe taking to say the least.


We will be taking a look at a collections of some the most weird but wonderful shoe designs which are the epiphany of epic statement shoes and where technology is today in terms of limitless limitations. In celebration of these eccentric shoes we outlined the top 5 best designs for you to lust and marvel over as they explore new shoe concepts and functionalities.

One


Benjamin John Hall and Alexandra Groover did a fashion and art collaboration that is pinnacle of the movement of wearable art technology is at today. The pair devised a design for a shoe that took on the inspiration of birth, life death and resurrection experiences. They introduced these manifestations onto the shoes in a clinical setting, which they depict the final outcome of the shoe as the final piece. 
The most show stopping piece of the collection is the ‘Lazurus Wedge’, this takes on the inspirational notion of resurrection. The shoe is literally set on fire to tighten up the leather for a more desirable fit; it then emerges from the flame reborn into the final state of new form.

Two


For an unconventional shoe that will bring a smile to your face look no further than the work of Maskull Lasserre. This project has been put together by designer Lasserre and Outliners, the shoes which they design are more than comical with their realistic sole to the shoe that has been carved to mimic the foot of an animal. What is so great about these shoes is that they possess elements of true artistry but you as the wearer can create art by creating intriguing footprints wherever the shoes take you.

Shoes created solely from paper to tell a personal story is the work of Julie VonDerVellen. She replaces fabric as paper and creates dainty elegant shoes that are adorable. The shoe entitled ‘Foot in the door’ incorporates fabric manipulation of ruffles within the design.

For a bizarre collection of shoes that take on nearly unrecognisable formations Noritaka Tatehana’s got what you’re looking for. The work of this quirky designer is within the celebrity sphere and particularly loved by fashion and music mogul Lady Gaga. These shoes handmade bespoke pieces that could leave you waiting for up to five months.  Despite the fact you could be waiting up to half a year to get your hands on a pair, these shoes are iconic unconventional shoes that ooze the meaning wearable art, they design is revolutionary disregarding traditional rules and concepts within shoe design.

Last year we saw the Marcus Tremonto pair up with Nike to exhibit their Air force one collaboration. Tremonto is renowned for being the master of light in his contemporary work. Tremonto’s collaboration with Nike didn’t see him fall short when designing a distinctive utilising his expertise skills. The works of the Nike Zoom Force- 1 boots were created at the heart of his studio utilising electroluminescent paper and custom graphics. The trainers exude serial pop culture that’s contemporary fun wearable art.
